Family Search Indexing - 1885 Colorado State Census Instructions
You may have heard that your Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies is partnering with FamilySearch to index a new digital scan of the 1885 Colorado State Census. When we've completed this project, the index and images will be available for free to genealogists world-wide at beta.familysearch.org.
We're about to "go live" with this project so if you'd like to participate here's all you have to do is:
- Go to FamilySearch.org and select "Index Records" from the menu just below the FamilySearch logo. Click on the "Volunteer" button.
- Fill out the form and click "Submit."
- Now go back to the <FamilySearchIndexing> screen and click the "Start Indexing" button. An "Opening iude-launcher.jnlp" will open. Click "OK". Install on your PC or Mac. It works on both systems. Save the icon on your dock or desktop for quick access to the Indexing starting page. If you have any installation problems, go to HELP and select Product Support. Type in your problem and hit ASK.
- On the Main Indexing Page (the one that says Download Batch on the upper left side) from the Menu select Tools, then Options, then Edit My Preferences. Hit Save or Cancel.
- On the page that comes up, select My Info and then Edit.
- Go to the "Local Support Level" and select "Group or Society."
- On the "Group" line select "Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies."
- On the bottom line of the form select "United States of America" then "Colorado" from the drop-down menu. Click the "Save" button or you'll get a warning message!
- To start indexing, select Download Batch, then select US, Colorado-1885 State Census
- If you have any problems with these steps, please contact your Society Coordinator. If you do not have a Society Coordinator please contact us directly.
FamilySearch will send us a confirmation e-mail. Please let your Society Coordinator know that you registered successfully. We'll keep track of everyone's numbers and have some incentives for individuals and societies. If you do not have a Society Coordinator please contact us directly. Thanks for your participation.

The Records Coordinator is responsible for the Colorado Projects program. The Coordinator collects and publishes a list of information about the abstraction or indexing of public or private genealogical records in Colorado to prevent duplication of efforts by individuals or societies. The list of projects included here is of ongoing and completed projects of Colorado genealogical records. The list is updated as information is received.
