David was president of the Colorado Genealogical Society and founder of the Colorado Council in 1979, applied the Council for and received state approval for non-profit corporation status in 1981, hosted four annual seminars with national and regional speakers from 1980-1983. Created By-Laws in 1981 and amended By-Laws in 1983.

David was also president of the Federation of Genealogical Societies from 1982-1984. The David Vogels Jr. Award was created in his honor at FGS and CCGS in 1990.

Created cemetery project to update previous 1985 cemetery directory, hosted several annual seminars with Banquet: C. F. Alan Cass and The Music of Glenn Miller in 1998, Cyndi Howells, Hank Jones and locals in 2000, Elizabeth Shown Mills, Elizabeth Kerstens, & Pat Hatcher in 2002.

Pat and her staff was instrumental in planning with the NGS staff the 1998 National Genealogical Society’s conference held in Denver. Many of the Council member societies were involved in the planning and participation of the conference.

Updated the Council's website, four FF certificates awarded, continued the 1885 CO Census project, held meetings in Broomfield, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins, created a member survey on electronic newsletters, created new Board position for Delegate at Large nominated by delegates, total of 33 member societies in 2011.

Council met in Georgetown, 10 FF certificates awarded, delegates recommended a central email system, started the GoToMeetings teleconference services for our members who couldn't attend, gave Birdie Monk Holsclaw to Jackie Glavinick of Weld Co GS and David Vogels Jr. to Barbara Brown and Birdie Monk awards, 1885 CO Census and1940 Census indexing project completed, and Preserve the Pensions project approved in 2012.

Implemented first SWOT survey by John Putnam with follow-up sub-meetings on SWOT recommendations for improving Council operations, changed the speakers bureau directory to public access with a small annual fee and held meetings in Aurora and Loveland in 2013. Introduced several speakers on digital preservation and Scangaroo program, total of 30 member societies, and approved booth at FGS and NGS conferences in 2013.

Amended Bylaws and Standing Rules in 2014, Appointed Tom Hoffman as webmaster, hosted John Coletta Seminar, CCGS won award for best booth display at FGS, had several speakers on records preservation, CO State Archives, & CO State Vital Records at Council meetings, implemented societies’ seminars & workshops registration forms on Council website, updated Birdie Monk Fund procedures, announced Birdie Monk & David Vogels Jr. awards, and held meeting in Montrose in 2014.

Implemented two Society Management Workshops in 2017 and 2019 with four workshop videos, added multiple general meeting videos, updated second SWOT survey completed by John Putnam with Council recommendations for improving the Council, revised By-Laws, Standing Rules, and procedures in 2020, updated CCGS website in 2020, updated speakers bureau directory with new format in 2020, provided several Birdie Monk Holsclaw and David Vogels Jr. awards in 2018-2020, created CO Cemetery Preservation Project, issued 15 FF certificates in 2018, six FF certificates in 2019, and FF certificates in 2020, created Mail Chimp Council email systems for Board and Delegates, increased membership with four new societies to 30 society members in 2019.

Held meetings in Colo Springs in 2017, Longmont in 2018, Parker in 2019 and none in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. hosted several outside speakers on liability insurance, cybersecurity, Medical DNA, CO Vital Records, and several local society projects, added Zoom teleconference services to supplement GoToMeetings service so our member societies could use both services during the pandemic and record their meetings for later playback using our Vimeo video service, and created the Past Presidents Tribute webpage in 2020.

Implemented our Society Managment Workshop in 2021 with 20 classes and was an instructor at the Calvary Baptist Church in Denver. Also implemented several webinars on various topics each quarter in 2021. Helped to create the Family Tree Makers Group in 2022 using six instructors teaching the popular software on a monthly basis via Zoom. Held four quarterly general meetings each year virtually on Zoom during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic. Had interesting topics at the general meetings from a national survey on the effects of the pandemic on genealogy societies to volunteering and being active during the pandemic for our member societies.

Had over 30 member societies with over 20 member societies using our Zoom account during 2021 during the pandemic. Updated the council website with additional videos on the quarterly meetings, workshops, webinars, and FTM software videos. Added 20 more First Families certificates during her presidency for a total of 984 certificates since the program started in 1983.

Marilyn aslso worked with the Denver Public Library Western History Genealogy as a volunteer genealogist for two years. She has worked as Professional Genealogist for the past 16 years and is a member of APG and CAPG. Marilyn has served as the past president of WISE-FHS. She is a member of the Colorado Genealogy Society, the ISBGFH (International Society for British Genealogy and Family History) and a member of DAR.
